On the orders of Peter the Great, the Russian Spiritual Mission went to Beijing. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were several hundred Orthodox Christians in Beijing. Almost all of them were martyred during the Yietuan revolt against foreign interference in the economy, domestic politics and religious life of China.
