This icon contains the saints who possessed the gift of healing given to them by God. Some of them were doctors (for example, the brothers Cosmas and Damian). Having believed in Christ, the holy healers continued to help the sick, but they healed not so much with their medical skill as by invoking the name of God, prayer, anointing with consecrated oil, sprinkling with holy water. No fees were charged for healings, for which they were called unrequited.
