Rustik is a presbyter, an early Christian saint, revered as a holy martyr. According to legend, Saint Dionysius set out to preach to Western countries, accompanied by Presbyter Rusticus and Deacon Eleutherius. He converted many to Christ in Rome, and then in Germany and Spain. In Gaul, during the persecution of Christians by the pagan authorities, all three confessors were arrested and thrown into prison. For the spread of Christianity and unwillingness to renounce Christ, all of them, by order of the ruler of Gaul, Sisinia, were subjected to cruel torture, and then beheaded
