Saint Leonidas was born in the Peloponnese and served as the head of the women's spiritual choir. During the persecution of Decius (c. 250), the choir continued to sing hymns and thanksgiving prayers. While other Christians of this region hid and tried to avoid searches, the women led by Leonidas showed incredible courage, being the only ones who openly professed the Christian faith.
