Saint Elijah (Iorest) (1600 - 1678), Metropolitan of Transylvania, confessor, was born in 1600 in one of the villages of Transylvania. It is believed that this village could be located either near the border with Moldova, or in Maramures. In baptism he received the name Elijah. As a young man, Elijah entered the Putnensky Monastery.
