Born in Cyprus into a family of piety. His elder brother Iraklides, while his parents were still alive, went to the holy city of Jerusalem, then withdrew to the Jordan Valley and settled in the Kalamon Lavra, accepting monasticism. Saint George remained alone with his parents until their death.
