Born in the village of Kapurna in the Dimitriat Diocese, in holy baptism he was named Nikon. His father Avgyrinos and his mother Kiratsa were pious Christians, besides Nikon they had three sons and four daughters. Nikon's parents were so poor that, being unable to support a large family, they gave them up to be raised by their cousin, who was engaged in trade in Velestina, where at that time they already lived.
