The iconography of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Theotokos illustrates the text of the Christmas verse of John Damascene: What will we bring: and is a symbolic version of the icon “The Nativity of Christ”. The iconography of the Cathedral of Our Lady is of Serbian origin and has been known in the Russian tradition since the 14th century. In the center of the composition is depicted the Mother of God sitting on a throne with the Child in her arms. She, in accordance with the text of the stichera, is surrounded by angels, shepherds and magi.
