Icon from the Athonite skete of St. John the Baptist, located within the Lavra of St. Athanasius. The name that was attached to it - Self-written - is associated with the following event. In 1863, the icon was commissioned by the Athonite brethren to the pious elderly Moldavian artist, exemplary prayer book Grigory Nikolaev from the city of Yassy. At first, the artist painted the vestments, then he began to paint the faces of the Mother of God and Jesus Christ, but every new attempt to do this was unsuccessful. He put the work aside, and after spending the night in earnest prayer, in the morning he was going to continue it. And then the icon painter discovered that the icon was fully completed. All he had to do was varnish it. During the return of the icon to the Athonite monastery, numerous miraculous healings of the sick were performed from it. Heals this Athos image to this day
