The appearance of the RZHEVSKAYA icon took place under rather unusual circumstances. In 1539, in the village of Klochki, Okovetskaya volost, Rzhevsky district, Tver province, four thieves decided to commit theft. Two villagers had to steal two horses, two peasants, boyar Ivan Povadin, two cows, and then swear with the stolen oikon of God. The boyar thieves stole the cows, hid them in the forest and went to the appointed place to get the bulls, which the Klochkovskys should leave there. Arriving at the place, the reckless men did not find horses, but saw an icon on a pine tree. Frightened, the thieves from this place hastened to leave, but gradually it became known about the amazing find throughout the district.
