The image takes its name from the ancient city of Putivl, Kursk province. Now this city is located on the territory of modern Ukraine, namely in the Sumy region. From historical sources it became known that there were at least two images with a similar name. One icon was in the local Molchensky monastery, and the second - in the Putivl Church of the Resurrection of the Lord
