Saint Irina of Constantinople was married to the holy Confessor George. They suffered in Constantinople in the first half of the 9th century for the veneration of holy icons. For refusing to renounce the worship of icons, the emperor Theophilus confiscated George's property and sent him into exile along with his wife and children.
