For the first time, the image of "Mother Superior of the Holy Mount of Athos" was created in the former Russian cell of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on Mount Athos (today it belongs to the Khilandar monastery) at the beginning of the 20th century. The icon was commissioned by the Greek governor of Athos. The ark of the original icon contains particles of the Cross of the Lord and the relics of the saints.
